Accepting and managing inherent risks of journalism
Lynda Powless brought many years of experience in journalism, from CBC to national newspapers to her venture, Turtle Island News, Canada's only national native weekly newspaper. In 1994 Lynda decided move back to her home community and use her experience and skills to launch a newspaper from her basement. Today, Turtle Island News has a circulation of 20,000 weekly with readership growing within Canada and internationally. She also oversees publication of several magazines, including Aboriginal Business, Aboriginal Tourism and Aboriginal Golf. She has won numerous business awards and in 2006 she was named one of the Top 100 Most Powerful Women in Canada.
